He has played for Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, San Miguel Beermen, Pepsi Mega and Alaska Milkmen. He was nicknamed The Refrigerator and El Aparador due to being compared to a cabinet because he’s that big. Born: August 23, 1972, in Quezon City, Philippines. College: University of Manila.
  3. Wilmer Ong - HE wasn't as popular as, say, Bal David or Noli Locsin or Vince Hizon. But to die-hard Ginebra fans, Wilmer Ong best represents the Ginebra players of the Robert Jaworski era because, like the team’s charismatic leader, he never once backed down from battle. Ong was also the quintessential Ginebra bruiser - the last in a long line of Ginebra tough guys that also included Rudy Distrito, Dante Gonzalgo, Sonny Cabatu, Chito Loyzaga, Terry Saldana, the late Rey Cuenco, and, of course, Jaworski himself. It’s his kind that, most Ginebra fans feel, this modern-day Kings obviously lack – Dave Marcelo comes to mind, but he doesn't really come close. Although if you ask these bruisers, they'll tell you they played tough but not rough, physical but not dirty. Born: September 20, 1970, in Cadiz, Negros Occidental, Philippines. College: University of St. La Salle.
  4. Cris Bolado - Bolado played for the National University Bulldogs during his college years. He was selected by Alaska in the second round of the 1994 PBA draft. He became part of the Alaska Milkmen's 1996 Grand Slam team and in terms of finals stints, Bolado was one of the most successful in the PBA, making it to the championship series for ten straight times - from Alaska, Purefoods, and Gordon's Gin. In 1999, he was in his fourth PBA team with Pop Cola and then was traded to San Miguel Beermen where he became a member of two more championships. Bolado won a total of 11 titles in the league and retired in 2003. Bolado moved to Cambodia with his wife in 2013. There he worked as a basketball coach in an international school in Phnom Penh. He also managed Inasal Nation, a Filipino restaurant. He died in a motorcycle accident on September 17, 2017, at age 47 in Phnom Penh. Born: October 25, 1969, in Lucban, Quezon, Philippines. He was part of the ballclub's four championships from 1992-1995 and won Most Improved Player honors in the 1995 PBA season. Balingit moved to the Metropolitan Basketball Association beginning the 1999 season and played for the San Juan Knights. He returned to the PBA in 2001, playing for Tanduay Rhum Masters and have suited up for Purefoods TJ Hotdogs in his final playing career. He found his niche as a basketball player while playing for coach Yeng Guiao's Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, where he was known as one of the league's toughest players. While with Rain or Shine, he also became teammates with J.R. Quiñahan, and together they formed a duo in the low block, called the Extra Rice, Inc., owing to their weight and huge appetite. Born: November 30, 1986, in Gubat, Sorsogon, Philippines. College: Philippine Christian University.
  9. Noli Locsin - Luis Manuel B. Locsin, better known as Noli Locsin, is a Filipino retired professional basketball player. Dubbed as "The Tank", he is best known for his playing years with the Ginebra San Miguel franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association. Locsin played for the RP Youth team in 1990 before suiting up for back-to-back UAAP titlist De La Salle Green Archers. He had a brief stint with Triple-V Foodmasters in the Philippine Basketball League prior to its disbandment and then played for Nikon Electric Fan which completed a cinderella finish in the PBL. When 6-9 Marlou Aquino, the most sought-after rookie, was out of the picture in the 1994 PBA draft, Ginebra, now renamed Tondeña 65, and the team that will pick first in the amateur draft, went for the next best option in Noli Locsin, a burly 6-3 power forward who can barrel his way into the toughest walls of the defenders. He showed the Tondeña ballclub that it made the right choice when he emerged as the team's leading scorer and the league's leading local rebounder with his rookie season averages of 18.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists in 34.9 minutes. His stats are not enough through as Tondeña's struggles continued, winning just 12 of their 32 games in the 1994 season. Playing for player-coach Robert Jaworski's "never-say-die" system, he flourished playing power forward while being undersized at only 6-3 without being able to develop outside shooting. A consistent low post threat, Locsin closed the size gap with his strength and skill although he began to fade out as soon as he parted ways with Jaworski. Before the arrival of Fil-Ams in the PBA, Locsin was considered one of the top bruisers of his time in a time when it was rare for a Filipino player with his bulk to move as quick and leap as he did. Locsin was then traded to Pop Cola in the mid-season in 1999 for Vergel Meneses. He drifted to other PBA teams such as Tanduay and Red Bull before retiring. Born: October 19, 1971, in Bacolod, Philippines. College: De La Salle University.
  10. Bong Hawkins - Rene "Bong" Hawkins Jr. is a Filipino retired professional basketball player of the Philippine Basketball Association. He is the son of character actor Rene Hawkins, Sr. A power forward with the good sense of timing inside the shaded area, Bong was drafted as the second overall pick in the 1991 PBA draft. The former Perpetual Help cager was chosen by Presto coach Jimmy Mariano when the Tivolis traded Manny Victorino to Pepsi. Hawkins twisted his knee during practice and was forced to sit out in the entire first conference. He finally debut in Tivoli Milk uniform at the All-Filipino Conference and asserted his might. In 1993, he was absorbed by newcomer Sta. Lucia Realtors, which took over the disbanded Presto franchise. Bong played one conference as a Realtor before being traded to Alaska Milkmen for Paul Alvarez beginning the 1993 PBA Commissioner's Cup. After the 2005-06 PBA season, he retired and worked for Tim Cone as one of his assistant coaches. During the 25th Anniversary of Alaska last September 27, 2010, his number 16 was retired along with Johnny's number 14. After Toyota disbanded, Loyzaga moved to Great Taste, where he became part of the team's dynasty of four straight championships. In 1986, he was shipped to Ginebra San Miguel, where he spent all of his last eight seasons in the PBA, winning three championships. A seven-time recipient of the Philippine Basketball Association All-Defensive Team award from 1985 to 1992, Loyzaga made a name for himself as a straight-up defensive stopper, using his heft and quick hands to guard the league's best big men, including the great Ramon Fernandez, and later, Alvin Patrimonio. He retired from basketball after the 1993 PBA season. Loyzaga also played for the Philippines men's national basketball team in the 1990 Asian Games where he distinguished himself by helping limit North Korean center Ri Myung Hun despite a height discrepancy of over a foot and a half between them. He and brother Joey Loyzaga became one of the few siblings to have played in the PBA, eventually playing together with Ginebra San Miguel. Loyzaga is married to Maritoni Yulo, with whom he has three children, namely: Celina, Jose Joaquin, and Cecilia. 12 Trivia Facts About David Nepomuceno

    Photo from Rainier Virginio
    1. David Nepomuceno was born on 9 May 1900.
    2. David Nepomuceno was dominant in an era when the metric system was replacing the old imperial yard system and he ranked among the top 10 in the world in the 1920s including his fellow, the first great Filipino sprinter, Fortunato Catalon, dominating the 100 yards (91 metres) and 220 yards (201.1 metres) and 1925 100 metres.
    3. David Nepomuceno was the first Filipino to compete in the Olympics and the lone representative of the Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
    4. Together with his coach Regino Ylanan, the founder of the National Collegiate Athletic Association of the Philippines, Nepomuceno carried our flag proudly during the opening ceremonies in the 45,000-seat Stade Olympique de Colombes - the same venue of the 1938 World Cup final.
    5. David Nepomuceno ran the 100 meters in 1925 in only two-tenths of a second short of the then-world record.
    6. The reason behind the entry of the Philippines in the Olympics is not clear but it is likely that the IOC (International Olympic Committee) or the American colonial officials decided to admit the Philippines in order to expand the Asian presence in the quadrennial event.
    7. The Men's 100 Meters was Nepomuceno's first event where he was slated to run in the fifth heat with the likes of Henricus Broos of the Netherlands, George Dunston of South Africa, Antonin Svoboda of Czechoslovakia, Poul Schiang of Denmark and Jose-Maria Larrabeti of Spain. Unfortunately, he finished dead last and both Broos and Dunston qualified to the next round. In the end, it was British Harold Abrahams who won gold at an Olympic record time of 10.6 seconds followed by American Jackson Scholz for silver at 10.7 seconds and Kiwi Arthur Porritt for bronze at 10.8. Interestingly, that race was depicted in the Academy Award-winning 1981 British historical drama "Chariots of Fire."
    8. David Nepomuceno was then slated to run against home town favorite Maurice Degrelle and Dutchman Marinus van den Berge in Heat 15 of the Men's 200 Meters but he was not able to progress as Degrelle topped the race at 22.6 seconds. In what was expected to be a highly-anticipated rematch between American Scholz and British Abrahams in the final became an anticlimactic finish as Scholz ran away with the gold medal at an Olympic record time of 21.6 seconds followed by compatriot Charles Paddock for the silver at 21.7 seconds and British Eric Lidell for the bronze at 21.9 seconds. Abrahams finished dead last at 22.3 seconds.
    9. David Nepomuceno went on to the 1925 Manila Far Eastern Games winning the Gold in the 200-meter dash and the Silver in the 100-meter dash.
    10. David Nepomuceno managed to win the Men's 100 Meter gold in the 1927 Games in Shanghai but failed to defend his Men's 200 Meters Straight gold as he slid to bronze as rising sprint star Anselmo Gonzaga took the gold and Japanese Takayoshi Yoshioka settled for the silver.
    11. David Nepomuceno served in the Philippine Scouts and the United States Navy.
    12. David Nepomuceno died on 27 September 1939.

12 Ways to De-Stress At The End Of The Day

Reposting a good article I have read while trying to figure out on what to do next after a short workout trying to relieve stress.

    1. Leave your work at the office
      • The best way to de-stress at the end of the day is to leave your work at the office. Finish what you have to finish and then call it a day. Rid your mind of your to-do lists and other problems because you’ll have the next day to tackle it all. For now, let it all go.
    2. Have a good dinner
      • There’s just something about a good, warm meal that comforts you and makes you forget about all the stress of your day once you have that first bite. Go to your favorite restaurant and order that one special dish as your reward for a hard day’s work.
    3. Have a drink
      • Is that good meal not cutting it? Try having a drink (or two) to loosen up a bit and relax. CNN says, “At the ‘slight buzz’ level, alcohol is a social lubricant which often improves mood. You start to let go of a few worries, pay attention to the moment with friends.” Be careful not to go overboard though! You don’t want to nurse a hangover the next day on top of accomplishing all of your tasks.
    4. Treat yourself
      • You’ve been working hard all day. Walk over to the mall and treat yourself with a new pair of shoes, or new clothes. Even something as simple as ice cream will do. Treat yourself to anything, big or small, and go home happy and content.
    5. Do some yoga and release all that tension
      • If you’ve never tried yoga before, now is a good time to start. For beginners, you can check out Yoga with Adriene. For 20 minutes every day, calm your mind and feed your soul by following Adriene’s yoga for beginners’ video. You can also try her 30 days of yoga program, free on her website. You’ll find that even simple breathing exercises can change your mind set and help you relax for the rest of the day.
    6. Watch your favorite show or read a book
      • Escape your world and enter into another with your favorite show or book. There’s just something about these fictional worlds that make us forget about the one we exist in. Get lost in the pages of your favorite book and then have a good night’s rest.
    7. Listen to music
      • Even during your stressful work day, you can put on your earphones and listen to music to calm down or let loose. If you don’t already have the Spotify app on your phone, download it. There are a bunch of Spotify playlists that you can choose from to match your mood. Choose beats that will calm you down or pick you up – whichever you prefer.
    8. Go for a run
      • Don’t have a gym membership? No problem! Go for a run in your village or around your street and release those endorphins! When you go running, researcher MK McGovern says, “These endorphins tend to minimize the discomfort of exercise, block the feeling of pain and are even associated with a feeling of euphoria.” Get that runner’s high and get fit at the same time.
    9. Hang with friends
      • You probably talk to your friends all day in your various groups on Viber, Whatsapp, Line, or social media platforms. But being in their company is a whole lot of fun too! Catch up with friends after work and end your day with a lot of laughter and a warm heart.
    10. Have a hot shower
      • Get into the shower and lather on calming lavender bath gel, or any other scented bath gel you have lying around. Allow the hot water and scents to relax you and help you get ready for a good night’s rest.
    11. Have a massage
      • We’re lucky to have a lot of home massage centers all around the metro so that we can just call and enjoy a soothing massage in the comfort of our own homes. Book a massage and let your masseuse help you get rid of all that tension in your body.
    12. Get a good night’s sleep
      • Nothing is as comforting as finally ending your day in your soft and comfy bed. Make sure to go to bed early so you can have a long sleep to prepare you for the next day.

12 Renowned Pinoy Athletes Before Pacquiao

    1. Carlos “Caloy” Loyzaga - Known as “The Big Difference,” Carlos Loyzaga was one of the most dominant players in Philippine basketball before the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) was created. He was a two-time Olympian (1952, 1956) and is still the only Asian player to make it to the mythical team of the world championships. Loyzaga is also regarded as the best Filipino basketball player of all time.
    2. Paeng Nepomuceno - Rafael "Paeng" Nepomuceno is a six-time world bowling champion and is recognized as the greatest international bowler of all time. He holds the world record for the most career titles won in six different continents, currently 128.
    3. Robert Jaworski - Also known as “The Living Legend” or simply “Jawo,” Robert Jaworski is one of the most controversial but most-loved figures in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Jaworski was the first-ever playing coach in the PBA and is known for making a champion team out of a Ginebra squad despite its lack of talent. In 2000, he was honored as one of the PBA’s 25 Greatest Players of all time.
    4. Efren "Bata" Reyes - Efren “Bata” Reyes is known as “The Magician” for his stunning trick shots on the pool table. But what distinguished him among his peers was his achievement of becoming the first man in history to win world championships in two different billiard disciplines. Besides his world titles, he is also a 14-time Derby City Classic champion, a two-time World Cup champion, and a two-time World Pool League champion. Fans and analysts regard Reyes as the greatest pool player of all time.
    5. Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco - Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco is one of the most celebrated Filipino Olympians for nearly scoring a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Games. His silver-medal finish that year was the Philippines' only medal in Atlanta. Before his Olympic feat, he was one of three boxers who clinched gold medals in the 1994 Asian Games.
    6. Arsenio Laurel - Arsenio Laurel, the son of former President Jose P. Laurel, was the first two-time winner of the Macau Grand Prix, winning it consecutively in 1962 and 1963. He died at the age of 35 after crashing his car into the sea wall during the Macau Grand Prix in 1967.
    7. Gabriel "Flash" Elorde - Gabriel “Flash” Elorde is considered as one of the greatest junior lightweight champion in boxing history. He held the junior lightweight title for seven years and is considered as one of the best Filipino boxers of all-time along with Pacquiao and Pancho Villa.
    8. Paulino Alcantara - Paulino Alcantara was the first Filipino and Asian player to play for a European club. He spent most of his playing career at Barcelona FC where he also scored 100 goals in 69 matches. This made him the club's highest goalscorer (counting goals scored in both official games and friendlies). Although he didn't get much recognition in the past, Pinoy football fans today celebrate his achievements.
    9. Teofilo Yldefonso - Swimmer Teofilo E. Yldefonzo is the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win an Olympic medal, and the only Filipino to win multiple medals. He won two bronze medals in the 200-meter breaststroke event, at the 1928 and 1932 Olympics, and placed seventh in 1936. He was also a war hero, having fought against the Japanese during World War II in Bataan. He survived the Bataan Death March, but later died at the Capas Concentration Camp.
    10. Lydia De Vega - Lydia de Vega was heralded as “Asia’s Fastest Woman” in the 1980s. She was first recognized after her gold medal performances at the 1981 Southeast Asian Games. De Vega also won the gold in the 100-meter dash in the 1982 New Delhi Asiad and in the 1986 Seoul Asiad.
    11. Pancho Villa - Francisco Guilledo, commonly known as “Pancho Villa,” was the Philippines’ first boxing sensation. Despite standing at 5-foot-1, he became the first Asian to win the world flyweight title in 1923. Sadly, he died at the age of 23 from complications following a tooth extraction. Before his death, he collected a total of 89 wins, eight defeats, four draws and two no-contests in 103 fights.
    12. Luisito Espinosa - Before Pacquiao came along, Luisito “Lindol” Espinosa was the country’s biggest boxing star, having won world titles two different weight divisions. In 1989, he won the WBA bantamweight title by knocking out Kaokor Galaxy in the first round. After losing the crown to Israel Contreras in 1991, he completed a dramatic comeback by snatching the WBC featherweight title from Manuel Medina.

      Treadmill Running 12 Tips

Treadmill running is an alternative way to run if you do not have time to go outside due to some reasons such as bad weather or not just in the mood to go out. Personally, I use the treadmill before going to work. 5 to 8 minutes will suffice already depending on the available time so as not to be late for work. Before, I rarely use the treadmill for running but since this is one of the available alternative for me to keep fit, I am now a treadmill believer. Treadmill running is an additional training for my long distance running adventures.

If you are browsing for some tips to make your treadmill running worthwhile, here are twelve (12) recommendations.
      1. Make sure you warm up.
      2. Use a slight incline.
      3. Don't make it too steep.
      4. Don't hold onto the handrail or console.
      5. Don't forget your cool down.
      6. Don't lean forward.
      7. Pay attention to your stride.
      8. Work on improving your stride count.
      9. Listen to music.
      10. Visualize a route.
      11. Don't forget to hydrate.
      12. Don't look down.

      2014 PBA Grand Slam

12 Things about the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Grand Slam
      1. The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines composed of ten company-branded franchised teams. It was the first professional basketball league in Asia and is the second oldest in the world after the NBA. The league's regulations are a hybrid of rules from FIBA and the NBA. The league played its first game at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on April 9, 1975.
      2. Grand Slam in the Philippine Basketball Association(PBA) refers to a PBA team who has won Four straight conferences (tournaments) in a single season.
      3. The 2000–2009 decade is the first decade where there would be no grand slam winner partly due to the adjustments in the league calendar starting with the 2004-05 season wherein the start of the season was moved from January to October and the reduction of the conferences per season from three to two but the three-conference season format was reinstated in the 2010-11 season.
      4. Four teams and four coaches have already achieved the Grand Slam feat.
      5. The Crispa Redmanizers, owned by P. Floro and Sons, Inc., played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) from 1975 to 1984 and was one of the nine founding teams of the PBA and it held a total of thirteen PBA championships and were the first & second grand slam winners in the league.
      6. San Miguel franchise is owned by San Miguel Corporation (SMC) since 1975 and holds the most number of PBA titles (currently at 19) and they have achieved the PBA's third grand slam in 1989 and it is one of three PBA ball clubs owned by the SMC group of companies, along with the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. It is also the only remaining original franchise in the PBA (the team was then known as the Royal True Orangemen) when it opened in 1975.
      7. The Alaska Aces, owned by Alaska Milk Corporation, played since 1986 and the owner of 14 PBA championships with the 2013 PBA Commissioner's Cup as their latest. The Aces won nine PBA championships in the 1990s and became the fourth PBA team to have won the rare grand slam (winning three championships in one season) during the 1996 season.
      8. On July 9, 2014, San Mig Coffee Mixers got their first ever Grand Slam feat. This was also the second Grandslam of Coach Tim Cone since the Alaska in 1996.
      9. The San Mig Super Coffee Mixers is owned by the San Miguel Pure Foods Company, Inc. (formerly, Pure Foods Corporation), a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and is one of three PBA ball clubs currently owned by the SMC group of companies, along with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the San Miguel Beermen. Known for its first two-decades as Purefoods, after their 10th championship, was renamed as San Mig Super Coffee Mixers and became the fourth team in PBA history to win the Grand Slam in the 2013-14 season, after 18 years, under the mentoring of the "winningest coach," Tim Cone.
      10. The defunct first and second grand slam winning team, Crispa Redmanizers, still holds the most consecutive wins in a conference which is 19 during the  1980 All-Filipino Conference.
      11. Tim Cone clinched his 18th title in the recent match between San Mig Coffee Mixers (formerly Purefoods) and Rain or Shine, also made history by being the first coach to win two Grand Slams after he steered San Mig Coffee to pull off a historic Grand Slam and a fourth straight championship in the 2014 Governors’ Cup.
      12. Additionally, eight (8) PBA teams known as "The Pretenders" are teams who have won the first two conferences but were beaten on the last tournament.

1st 2014 World Cup Semifinal Game

Here are some interesting tidbits when Brazil lost to Germany with a score of 7-1 in the first semi-final game of the 2014 World Cup held last 8 July 2014 at the Estádio Mineirão in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
      1. It’s the worst defeat for Brazil since its 6-0 loss to Uruguay at the 1920 South American Championship.
      2. It's the first time Brazil has lost in a competitive game on its home turf since 30 September 1975, in the 1975 Copa America wherein they lost to Peru.
      3. This was the first time a team has scored their opening five goals inside the first 29 minutes. Germany are the first team to score five goals in the first half of any World Cup game since Poland against Haiti in 1974, and the first in a knockout-stage game since Austria beat Switzerland in 1954.
      4. Germany has now scored 223 goals in World Cup history—more than any other country, overtaking Brazil for the lead with 221 and Argentina with with 131.
      5. Germany's seven goals were the most ever in a World Cup semifinal. Germany's seven goals broke a record for most scored in a semifinal, previously at six, held by Uruguay and Argentina in 1930, and West Germany in 1954. No one had even scored five in a semi since Brazil beat France 5-2 in 1958.
      6. Germany reached the World Cup final for the eighth time, more than any other country.
      7. The previous worst defeats for a host nation at a World Cup were by three goals - South Africa's 3-0 loss to Uruguay in 2010, Mexico's 4-1 loss to Italy in 1958 and Sweden's 5-2 loss to Brazil in the 1958 final.
      8. Germany scored its first five goals in a span of 19 minutes, a feat that has only happened three times before: Hungary vs. El Salvador (1982, 13 minutes), Poland vs. Haiti (1974, 18 minutes) and Austria vs. Switzerland (1954, 9 minutes).
      9. The six-goal margin of victory also broke the record of five in World Cup semi-finals. No country scored six goals in a semifinal since 1954, when Germany beat Austria 6-1.
      10. The three biggest losses ever in Cup history were nine-goal margins: Hungary-El Salvador (10-1), Yugoslavia-Zaire (9-0) and Hungary-South Korea (9-0).
      11. By scoring Germany's second goal, Miroslav Klose became the most prolific goal scorer in World Cup history. Klose now has 16 World Cup goals in his career, breaking a record he shared with Brazil's Ronaldo.
      12. Pragya Thapa, a diehard 15-year-old fan of Brazil in Nepal committed suicide on Wednesday after the South American nation's humiliating defeat at the hands of Germany in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semifinal Tuesday.
