Pieces of my new folding bike

  1. I bought this bike last February 27 from a known online shopping site that offers a wide array of items and I paid using my credit card.
  2. For convenience sake and to avoid the hassle of choosing from high-priced bicycles in Baguio City, I chose to just buy online and thankfully, I received this folding bike last March 7. It was already half-assembled and folded when I opened it and tried to test it. It was deflated so I still need to buy a bike pump.
  3. For fitness reasons, I bought it so that I can use it to practice initially for my goal of joining a duathlon this year.
  4. For practicality purposes, I bought it so that I can use it as my ride going to work because the level of traffic which affects the arrival of jeepneys in our area are getting worse. The university near us should not only think of earning but at least, in a way, assist in helping the community by letting some of their school services pick up and drop off college students to town between 7AM and 9AM because most of the passengers are their students.
  5. For financial reasons, I bought it because it was within my budget of below 10,000 pesos and it has also a discounted price. It was originally priced at 9,600 pesos and I only paid 5,220.00 for it because of the additional discount of 10% which was the payday promo of the online shopping site.
  6. For romantic persuasion, I bought is so that my Love will be able to learn how to ride a bike.
  7. I also consider it not as an expense but an investment physically and financially.
  8. For security reasons, it can not be stolen easily because it is compact enough that I can put it inside our office.
  9. For environmental-friendliness, I can help promote a Clean and Green environment because there are no carbon dioxides produce when biking.
  10. For multimodality, I can bring it during long travels like riding a train in Manila or traveling by airplane for a long vacation.
  11. As a DIYer, I am also able to use my open wrench set and Allen keys set for assembly and for maintenance purposes.
  12. Mars, which is the name of my bike, is also known as "Mars Kingdom MKFL-20 Freestyle Folding Bike (Black)" and I have not use it entirely and now, three days after, it has broken pieces already due to our Siberian Husky, Ikkyo, wrecking its pedal part. Still, praise Heavens above, because he did not wrecked the whole bike. Also the cost of the bike is cheap and if it was worth 20,000 pesos or above, it will be really hard to accept.

Foldable bikes offer five primary advantages over conventional machines:
  • Free and unrestricted carriage on public transport
  • Relatively thief proof
  • Space-saving at home and elsewhere
  • urban multi-modal travel (such as rail/folding bike) is usually cheaper than using a car
  • High resale value

Memories of Basilan

Kill nothing but time, leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but pictures, Keep nothing but memories.
Not everybody has a chance to travel and visit the province of Basilan in the southern coast of Zamboanga.

These are just some of the collection of memories in Basilan from the selection of many kept photos of 2009.
  • After a short ride from Zamboanga airport then straight to the Island of Basilan via speedboat - an exhilarating start of an adventure.
our mode of transportation
  • Military checkpoints are prevalent in the area, an oft sight in our travels... so are the warm and generous smiles from the locals!
overloaded jeepney passing through a checkpoint
  • One of the many brave men defending the country. Our gratitude to all the heroes in this island.
welcome to Basilan, sir
  • Amidst the chaos in this land is the simple array of nature, a reminder of peace and harmony.
even the trees fall in line
  • A hidden beauty... the feel of flowing water washes all the worries
what's down there?
  • It took us a long bumpy ride and a boat ride to get here... IT WAS WORTH IT!
beautiful, lovely n
  • For a moment I forgot the alarming news and how terrifying the island is. What is there to be terrified about?
there's something out there
  • This is nothing compared to Boracay - this is more and not too many people get to experience the beauty of Basilan.
afternoon beachview
  • If only everywhere in this island is this peaceful and serene, then everyone can enjoy this amazing beach.
sunrise or sunset ???
  • Almost time to leave, another stroll just to savor the beauty of the place.
time to go...
  • At that time, this fastfood chain was new in this area. Same logo, same name... yet something is different!
yes, there is Jollibee in Basilan
  • In Zamboanga...pondering of when I'll get the chance to visit the Island of Basilan again. The memories are made sweeter by the wonderful people who made it possible. Thanks... to all of you and hoping to see you all again!

12 Activities During Holy Week

So, how did we celebrate Holy Week two weeks ago? We listed down personal activities we have done during that week which others might have done too.
  1. Worked - Yup. As a regular employee, I still have some work to do (MWF) since the whole Holy Week was not a public "holyday" and as an online worker, for Love, no work a day means no payment for hourly work of an online job.
  2. Bought groceries. - In anticipation of a "closure" of malls during the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday celebration, stock of groceries were needed.
  3. Watched Game of Thrones Season 1 to 3 and Episodes 1 and 2 of Season 4 - Opted to watched this TV series since it was already in my external hard drive. I saw the first episodes of Season 1 while traveling before and I got curious so I downloaded it. Since last year.
  4. Jogged up to Lourdes Grotto in Baguio -
Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto in the background
Able to visit, finally, one of the famous landmarks in Baguio City.
  5. Ate Buttered Chicken, Good Taste Rice, Fish Fillet with Vegetables and 1 pitcher Ice Tea at Good Taste Restaurant - After jogging, had a "full" breakfast at one of the well-known and "affordable" restaurants in Baguio City.
  6. Updated the12list.com website by adding Related Posts and Recent Posts - Of course, the week will not be complete if this site was not updated. Daily. Religiously.
  7. Watched Season 1 of Orphan Black - Since we were done with the Game of Thrones, decided to watched another TV series I have downloaded last year.
  8. Jogged until the summit of Mount Santo Tomas -
Part of Mt. Sto. Tomas / Mount Santo Tomas
My second time to visit the summit of Mount Santo Tomas near Mount Cabuyao
Part of Mt. Cabuyao / Mount Cabuyao
in Tuba, Benguet and the roads are almost "all" finished and cemented. My first time there was during the 3rd Baguio 21K Run with 32K added last year by the organizers, Renderfarm Graphics.
  9. Ate Boodle Fight (599-peso meal good for 5-6 persons), 1 Leche Flan, and 5 Large Ice Tea at "Luto ni Juan" -
    Boodle Fight leftover :D
After descending with Love (a veteran Mount Santo Tomas visitor) and her sisters (who were neophyte ascenders in Mount Santo Tomas), we rode on a jeepney (Apugao-Baguio, 14-peso fare) and had a luscious lunch at Luto Ni Juan, a new restaurant in Baguio City and all of us were first-timers there.
  10. Mass at Baguio Cathedral -
Palm Sunday at Baguio Cathedral / Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral
Holy Week celebration will not be complete without attending a mass at Baguio City's famous cathedral, "Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral" which is also one of the city's famous landmarks.
  11. Watched Season 1 of Da Vinci's Demons - Another TV series watched instead of watching downloaded movies.
  12. Answered Quizzes at Coursera.Org - And I was able to finished the quizzes for my Organizational Analysis course in Coursera

12 Ways For A Real Vacation Break

April is Summer Time! and Summer Time is Vacation Time! and Vacation Time is Long Break! This is a time to rest, relax and somehow free our mind from the daily stress we encounter. There are some ways to take a real vacation and you can read it all in this post.

  1. Make rest, relaxation and retreat your priorities. Do not think of vacation as a time to buy souvenirs or shopping for gifts. The point of vacation is to rest, relax and retreat from the hustle-bustle.
  2. Avoid tight vacation schedules, or outings too loaded with so many things to do. Do not pressure yourself from the tight vacation schedules because it will definitely spoil the fun.
  3. Break your routine. Try to be spontaneous by trying out new things which leads to new experiences which can bring a new outlook in your life.
  4. Don't forget your family. Make your family a part of your vacation by giving them full attention they also deserve.
  5. Don't always equate vacation with visiting relatives in the province. Visiting relatives is entirely different from spending your time with your relatives.
  6. Consider everyone's needs and get everyone involved in the planning. What your spouse or partner want may not be what you want. Be considerate of each other.
  7. Pack ahead. There is a saying that "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Plan ahead to be able to depart rested and optimistic.
  8. Say "no" to work. Avoid bringing your work with you while you are on vacation.
  9. Get back to basics. Try to rediscover the simple things in life. Taking a quiet picnic at the park or walking along the seashore or watching the sunset is appreciating the simple things in life. It also makes you closer to nature and appreciate nature's beauty.
  10. Be realistic. Even if you plan everything and all is in place already, there will be a moment when a little diversion from what you plan will happen. Mistakes happen. Additional expenses will be made out of your budget. Be prepared to accept such realities.
  11. Spend some time alone. Spending some time alone is a good time to remind yourself about your goals and what you need to do to attain them.
  12. You can spend vacation at home. Spending vacation does not really mean you need to spend it at the beach or hike in the mountains or any other activities outside your own home. It does not have to be that way. It is also more relaxing to stay at home because you do not need to worry about the exhausting travel, the confusing preparations and other out-of-town worrying which can make you uneasy. You can have all your time at home and do wonderful activities. It can also be a perfect and sweet moment which can be more meaningful for you and your family. Plus, it does not cost you more than what you can spend outside your home.
