First Dismissed Sandiganbayan Justice

  1. Ong is the first Sandiganbayan justice dismissed by the high court. Prior to Ong, the anti-graft court indefinitely suspended Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Francis Garchitorena in 2001.
  2. Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Gregory S. Ong was dismissed on 23 September 2014 by the Supreme Court (SC) for “gross misconduct, dishonesty and impropriety” over his links to the alleged pork-barrel scam architect Janet Lim-Napoles.
  3. This was the second offense committed by Ong. In 2011, the SC ruled with finality that Ong had committed conduct unbecoming of justices when he and two other Sandiganbayan justices mishandlled the trial of cases in Davao City in April 2006. Assistant Prosecutor Rohermia Jamsani-Rodriguez had alleged that the anti-graft court's Fourth Division simultaneously heard two cases together, with Ong hearing one case by himself, while the two other magistrates heard the other. The Sandiganbayan's Fourth Division compromised their ability to function as a collegial body when its three members heard two cases simultaneously, the Supreme Court said in its ruling.
  4. Ong's dismissal came with the "forfeiture of all retirement benefits, except accrued leave benefits, if any, and with prejudice to reemployment in any branch, agency or instrumentality of the government including government-owned and controlled corporation." The SC said its decision was "immediately executory."
  5. Ong was born on 25 May 1953 in San Juan City, Manila. He finished elementary and high school education at the Philippine Chinese Chen Kuang (1966) and at the Jose Rizal College (with honors, 1970), respectively. He earned his AB Political Science degree at Far Eastern University (1975), and his Bachelor of Laws at San Beda College of Law (1979), where he became Grand Judex of Lex Talionis Fraternitas. He passed the 1979 Philippine Bar Examination with a bar rating of 76.45%. He studied Master of Laws at the Manuel L. Quezon University (1992).
  6. Ong was the most senior associate justice of the Sandiganbayan or the longest-sitting justice of the anti-graft court. Ong was appointed associate justice and the chair of the fourth division of the Sandiganbayan by former president and Manila City mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada on 5 October 1998, making him the longest sitting justice. He was scheduled to retire 25 May 2023 when he reaches 70.
  7. He was promoted as SC justice on 16 May 2007 during the Arroyo administration but it was withdrawn after his citizenship was questioned. Since the creation of the Philippine Supreme Court in 1901, no presidential appointment of a Supreme Court Associate had ever been nullified by the High Tribunal. But on 3 July 2007 the Adolfo Azcuna judgment made history. The Court granted the petition of two foundations that sought to block Ong’s appointment over the citizenship issue. Azcuna wrote that Ong would be unable to join them on the bench "until he had proven in court that he was a natural-born Filipino citizen and corrected the records of his birth and citizenship". The court declared its decision to be final and effective immediately.
  8. Ong was the seventh richest associate justice in the Sandiganbayan with a net worth of P16 million, according to his 2014 Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
  9. Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno ordered an investigation against Ong after Benhur Luy and Marina Sula, whistleblowers in the P10-billion pork barrel scam, accused the anti-graft court justice as the contact of Janet Lim-Napoles, alleged mastermind in the fund anomaly.
  10. Ong, was the chairman of the Sandiganbayan's Fourth Division, who allegedly fixed the 2010 decision that acquitted Napoles and her husband, Jaime, over the anomalous sale of 500 Kevlar helmets to the Philippine Marines in 1998.
  11. Napoles, currently detained on illegal detention charges and is facing separate graft and plunder charges, is accused of using bogus non-government organizations to misuse lawmakers' Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), the formal name of pork barrel.
  12. Voting 8-5-2 or eight in favor of Ong’s dismissal, five against and two abstentions, the high court in a per curiam (by the court) decision said: The “totality of the circumstances of such association strongly indicates (Ong’s) corrupt inclinations that only heightened the public’s perception of anomaly in the decision making process.”
Those who voted for Ong’s dismissal were:
* Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno,
* Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio,
* Associate Justices Arturo Brion,
* Mariano Del Castillo,
* Martin Villarama Jr.,
* Estella Perlas-Bernabe,
* Marvic Leonen,
* and Francis Jardeleza.
Those who dissented were:
* Associate Justices Lucas Bersamin,
* Presbitero Velasco,
* Jose Perez,
* Jose Mendoza, and
* Bienvenido Reyes.
Out of the 15 SC magistrates, two justices have abstained from the case — Teresita Leonardo-de Castro and Diosdado Peralta — former colleagues of Ong in the anti-graft court or the Sandiganbayan.

12 Tips For Work From Home To Work For You

Work From Home

Not every one is capable of doing work from home. Anyone can start work from home but only a few succeed and are able to maintain and sustain this alternative source of income. In light of this, here are some recommendations which you can apply if you work from home or if you have plans to work from home.
  • Schedule.
    • Creating a schedule is a good way for developing time management skills, and helps improves yourself to be well-organized and become a self-starter. The fact is that work from home release us from the traditional 9-to-5 or 8-to-5 schedule but working without any structure can seriously hurt your productivity according to entrepreneurs Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson in their book "Remote: Office Not Required." The recommendation is to divide your workday into three sessions, if possible, arranged to your liking: a "catch up" time to go through emails and read the news, a "collaboration" period when you work with coworkers on projects or talk about planning with your manager, and a "serious work" time when you get through the most difficult assignments of the day. Setting up a schedule makes it easier to maintain a distinction between your professional and personal lives.
  •  Savings.
    • Even though you are working from home, you must consider saving part of your earnings to have a buffer in case of emergencies. Learn to have a savings goal by having a target amount of savings so that you will be motivated to save.
  • Skills.
    • Improve your technical skills because technical help is not always around when you encounter technical problems. You are left to your own devices if you encounter a technical glitch and you may be left alone wondering what to do. There are also some free and some paid softwares you can use for giving presentations and are really useful for you to become conversant such as Web-based meeting programs like GoToMeeting, Cisco WebEx, Join.me, TeamViewer or Google+ Hangouts.
  • Paperwork.
    • Get the proper business paperwork, with emphasis on "proper", especially for those who have small home business operations, proper tax registrations, business and occupational licenses and permits from different agencies are needed to operate legally. Also, you need to pay taxes in order to avoid future problems with tax agencies.
  • Insurance.
    • Do not forget about insurance. Try to find out the regulations regarding home business insurance because you also need to protect your valuable equipment against theft or injury to yourself.
  • Dress.
    • Get dressed. Although business attire is not necessary, you still need to work using a decent dress and not pajamas. Choose something that makes you feel good. Wear colors such as yellow, orange, and purple which reflect creative auras and has psychological benefits. This is another way for you to have boundaries between work and relaxation.
  • Workspace.
    • Find a workspace. Designate a room exclusively for your office or workspace. If this is not feasible, then find a  corner or other empty space that will serve as a workspace for you. Whatever you do, never bring work to bed. The best work-at-home jobs are often ones that demand a quiet space where there are few distractions. Try to make the "area" for purposes of work only.
  • Out.
    • Go out and work outside.
      Try to change the aura of work occasionally by going to the nearest coffee shop, bookstore, library, or park which is especially effective for boosting your creativity level.
  • Socialize.
    • In person, if you have extra time, get off the computer, put your phone away, and socialize. Participate in conferences, retreats, seminars, workshops or meet up with friends for coffee or lunch.
  • Network.
    • Network electronically by getting active in Social Media groups like LinkedIn groups that relate to your work, employer, alma mater, past employers, or other interests that suits you. You can comment on posts and add your own two cents which shows a part of your expertise and gives you a virtual feeling of being connected to a community. But be careful of photos that you posts because it might be use unknowingly by others and might lead to you being scrutinize by others.
  • Creativity.
    • Routine is a slow process of creative suicide and in order to avoid boring yourself to death, try to develop a new technique for your routine by downloading a new software, decorating your workspace, calling instead of e-mailing, discovering a potential partnership, reading books, attending workshops or taking on an intimidating challenge which can get your creative juices overflowing again.
  • Break.
    • Take a break. A break is one of the biggest advantage you have if you work from home. Sitting for long periods of time without a pause is personally and profesionally unhealthy. Try to go for a walk, have lunch at the table, reserve an hour for reading magazines or newspapers or prepare your dinner. Never take a break that consist of more screen time. It's not good for your eyes. It's bad for your health. Try to relax. Get some fresh air. Walking rejuvenates us and stretching helps boost our energy. If you are tempted to do a mid-afternoon nap, if you have a budget, consider working at a local coffee shop or library. According to the book "Remote: Office Not Required" by the entrepreneurs Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson, "It sounds counterintuitive, but the presence of other people, even if you don't know them, can fool your mind into thinking that being productive is the only proper thing to do."

  5. Copied persistently all posts from the12list.weebly.com.
  6. Deleted the12list.weebly.com. Reasons: 1) Sometimes weebly.com loads slowly. 2) Needs $4 per month to connect or use own domain.
  7. Registering the12list.com coincided with our dog's 10-month birthday. His name is Ikkyo, a bi-eyed Siberian Husky.
  8. Bought Go Natural dog food (temporarily) for Ikkyo. Since Orijen is out of stock from our supplier, we opted to buy an alternative.
  9. Preparation for the BCEMS 2 18K run tomorrow, April 6, 2014.
  10. PLDT Home Bro: No text, call or any update from them regarding the delivery of the HP laptop and printer which are included in their Plan 1799 promo.
  11. I was able to follow up last April 1, 2014 about the status of my HP laptop and printer and I was informed by the lady customer service in PLDT Session Road in Baguio City that I was the 5th complainant for this service. Unfortunately, the only answer I got was that she would email it (to whomever) and will be updated "for delivery already". Coincidentally or incidentally, it was April Fools' Day when I inquired about the status of the devices which until now, April 5, 2014, I have not received.
  12. Fortunately, I was able to capture a photo of the PLDT spiel for subscribers (including the author) that will follow up regarding the status of their HP laptops and printers. Below is the picture taken:

12 Reasons Why PLDT (Home Bro) Is Lame

PLDT Home Bro Bundle Plan 1799

These are all based on experience just this month of March, 2014. I availed of their promo of Plan 1799 with 2Mbps Unlimited Internet plus HP Laptop and Printer last March 1, 2014 at their booth in Session Road, Baguio City during the Panagbenga Festival. I paid Php2000.00 for it.
Here are the lame reasons why availing the PLDT Home Bro was really unfortunate and a big mistake which I regret I would pay for 2 years installment.

  • The canopy they installed was not the small canopy but rather a big canopy which the technician informed was just the same with the small canopy. It was the external canopy and not the small internal canopy.
  • I sent a text message to the PLDT sales agent to follow up the laptop and printer last March 17, 2014 and I received no reply from her.
  • It's been a month already and I still have not receive the free HP Laptop and Printer which are included in their Php1799 promo.
  • We have tried to call them through their PLDT hotlines and it took almost 5 minutes before our call can be answered.
  • We have called them 5 times already and on the first call, they informed me that it was escalated already and a report was made and we need to wait another 7 to 10 days for the result upon receipt of the escalated report.
  • For the second call which was cut because of low battery issues on our phone, it was purely excuses on why there was a delay of delivery.
  • For the third call we have made, they informed us that because of many subscribers who availed the promo, the courier of which they are not kind enough to tell who, was not able to deliver immediately the laptop and printer.
  • For the fourth time we made a call, they informed us that it was reported already and we will just receive a call or text from them but no text or call was received from them.
  • For the fifth time we made a call, they informed us that it was already reported and the billing department will make adjustments because of the delay. How much rebate or the time of arrival was not even assured.
  • Why it was a lame service? Because it is clearly indicated in their Home Bro FAQs that the Laptop and Printer will be delivered within 7-10 days upon successful activation of internet.

  • They have an intermittent internet connection. The reason I only availed of this promo was because of the HP Laptop and Printer that was included and not the internet. We have DSL connection which is faster than their HomeBro which they are currently promoting now.
  • As of this writing, March 30, 2014, I received a text message from someone on their sales group informing me about my PLDT Home Bro account number when in fact and as previously mentioned on this list, I inquired to follow up about the laptop and printer last March 17, 2014 and there was no reply and now their reply was only to inform me about my PLDT Home Bro account number of which I already knew.
